A revised curriculum of nursery school teachers’ training education will start in 2019. This research aims to analyze contexts of 15 textbooks used in classes “Child Health I” (“Kodomo no Hoken I”) and “Child Health II” (“Kodomo no Hoken II”) in order to identify the contents related to observation of child health conditions. This examination may be useful in the new curriculum. Among the 15 textbooks, descriptions of “temperature” were found in the 7 textbooks, “breathing” in 8, “pulse” in 6, and “blood pressure” in the 7 textbooks. The 2 textbooks did not describe any of those vital signs. Furthermore, 14 textbooks include descriptions of “suffocation” (airway obstruction) and “anaphylaxis(severe allergy symptom)” . Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) was described in 10 textbooks. Descriptions of “medical care (for children in nursery schools)” were found only in 3 textbooks.
