This paper argues that repression and co-optation are critical to current authoritarian regimes but not sufficient to explain the remarkable resilience of them. In this paper, I argue the possibility that the so-called status-quo mechanism upholds the dictatorship through paying special attention to three perspectives, i.e. prospect theory, popular injustice concept, and path-dependency.
